SEA VEGETABLES: Ingredients for Manufacturers
Maine Coast Sea Vegetables was founded in 1971 with a mission to bring small amounts of high quality whole-leaf North Atlantic sea vegetables to health minded individuals. Thirty years later we are still providing these premium products to the retail health food industry.
To satisfy increasing demand from manufacturers, food service providers and food technologists for milled sea vegetables, we are proud to offer six exceptional North Atlantic sea vegetable products, and one from the Pacific. These milled sea vegetables offer the same high quality but in larger volumes, at less cost, and with guaranteed availability. We also make available selected whole-leaf varieties.

DULSE, Certified Organic
Our milled Dulse (Palmaria palmata) comes from the Bay of Fundy, renowned for the world's finest dulse. It is hand-harvested, low temperature sun-dried, and immediately milled into flakes, granules and powder. The entire harvesting and handling process follows strict OCIA organic standards to eliminate possible processing contamination and over harvesting.
As with all our milled products, Dulse is analyzed for all major minerals and vitamins as well as tested for herbicide, pesticide, hydrocarbon, heavy metal, and microbiological contamination. Availability and product consistency are excellent. Some current ingredient applications are: supplements, super-nutrition formulas, herbal extracts, frozen entree, seasonings, salad dressings, animal nutrition.

KELP, Certified Organic
Our milled Kelp (Laminaria digitata) grows deep in the cold sub-tidal waters of Northwestern Iceland. Other milled 'kelp' available on the market is either intertidal Ascophyllum (rockweed) from Norway, Atlantic Canada, or New England, or the surface growing fronds of Macrocystis, harvested in California.
Our digitata is also distinguished by being the only kelp currently available that is sustainably harvested, dried, milled and bagged following the organic standards of QAI (Quality Assurance International) in the U.S., and TUN, the local Icelandic certifier.
Product consistency is excellent for both powder and granules. Some current ingredient applications are: supplements, nutrition drinks, herbal extracts, dried soup mixes, salad dressings, seasonings, cosmetic applications.
Our whole-leaf Kelp (Laminaria longicruris) is hand-harvested at its peak of nutrition and vitality during the annual spring harvest off the coast of Downeast Maine (see map...). This kelp offers a similar nutritional analysis as milled kelp, although with less iodine. Most of this organically certified Kelp (OCIA) is sold at retail, so it is available in smaller quantities than milled kelp and at a higher price.
Milled Kelp: Mesh sizes of 50 (powder) and 20/50 (granules)
