Ascophyllum nodosum
(Norwegian Kelp)
OCIA Certified
and a Raw Food
Our milled Rockweed is harvested in the cold, clean waters of Iceland and dried at low temperatures using geo-thermal heat, so the heat-sensitive nutrients remain intact. Rockweed powder contains 1.5 mg of iodine per gram, about 3 times less than Kelp powder (Laminaria digitata) which has 4.7 mg of iodine per gram. Like most other seaweeds, Rockweed's full complement of minerals and trace elements creates an alkalinizing effect on the body.
Rockweed is primarily used as a powder in drinks, teas or supplements because the whole leaf form is considered by most to have an unusual aroma and slightly bitter taste when cooked.
